What is W3C HTML?

Have you heard the term W3C compliant HTML?

What does it mean?

W3C or World Wide Web Consortium was established in 1994. W3C set the standards for website code i.e. HTML.

When you produce a website the code (HTML) must comply with W3C standards. If it doesn't - your website will lose 'points' with the search engines.

But why do you need 'brownie points' from search engines?

Traffic to your website...

Search engines don't see websites as we do. They see boring code with no images. You can see the HTML code of this website by selecting View => Page Source in the main menu of your Internet browser. Or right click => View Source.

A website may look fantastic but that's just what we see as humans. The search engines only see the HTML code. If that code complies with W3C standards the search engines are happy and will give your website some good 'brownie points'.

It's these 'brownie points' that will affect where your website appears in the search results. If your website is high up in the results - you'll get more traffic and more sales!

You've probably heard of inbound links? Having relevant inbound links to your website will also improve your search results.

Having relevant inbound links is important but if the structure or architecture of your website is poor those inbound links are worthless. It's so much easier to get W3C compliant HTML code than it is relevant inbound links. So why not get it right first time?
