3 Steps to Increase Web Traffic
Websites need traffic. Without the right visitors to a website, the website serves no real purpose. Why build a highway without directing traffic to use it?
There are many ways to increase the number of visitors to a website:
Number One: Get Links
If your website has a good number if websites linking to it, chances are the search engines will place your website nearer the top of the search results.
But, there are a couple of important points to note about link building...
Don't just exchange links with as many websites as possible. These links merely cancel each other out and are a waste of time.
Aim for links from other websites that have similar content to yours. Search engines will pick up on links that are related to your website.
Number Two: Search Engine Optimisation
Your website should be friendly to the search engines. Make their lives that little bit easier! Ensure your HTML code complies with W3C standards, check all your META tags are relevant, and keep an eye on keyword density. Too many keywords and your website will look like spam.
Offsite, always try to maintain a good number of inbound links to your website and never spam your websites link on other websites.
Offer a site map of your website. List all the pages within your website on a single page to make search engines lives easier to navigate. Site maps are also really handy for humans when they get lost too!
Number Three: Write Articles
It's what I'm doing right now!
Articles are a great way to present yourself as an expert to others. If people find your article interesting they'll share it, click on your links, and even get in touch with you!
My favourite place to submit articles to is Ezinearticles.com due to the very high traffic on their website. Articles do have to pass fairly high standards to be approved, but this filters out spam and pointless articles.
My personal tips for writing articles are:
- Keep paragraphs to a minimum. Think about your readers. Reading large chunks of text on a computer screen can really bring on a headache. It's not like reading from a book!
- Write as if you're talking to your best friend. Don't use long or complicated words. You'll just lose your readers interest
- Don't submit the same article to hundreds of article websites. Search engines very quickly pickup on duplicate content. You're only wasting your time. Submit just one article to one article directory at a time.
